A little bit about yourself: -

I am an author, writer and entrepreneur. I have been writing and performing poetry for many years. I enjoy writing because it gives me the ability to paint pictures with words. I wrote “A Walk Through Brooklyn” to show experiences African American males goes through in American society.

I published “A Walk Through Brooklyn” through my publishing company Rashaun Enterprises. Our mission is to publish, promote and advocate for aspiring authors. We provide book formatting, custom book design, ISBN/Barcodes, Editing, Marketing Materials, Copyright, Author Bios, Press Releases, Book Proofs and Distribution.

What Inspires You?: -
I am inspired to write because it gives me the opportunity to share my life experiences.

What 2 tips would you share with a budding writer?:
Tip 1: Network with fellow writers.

An Outline of your Featured Book?: - “A Walk Through Brooklyn”, a collection of nineteen poems that express the black experience from a vivid point of view of an African American man who has experience growing up in American society without a father and losing a loving mother. It covers a range of topics such as self-motivation, love, friendship, abandonment and loss.

A little bit about yourself: - I'm an independent author who specialises in black UK erotica. I've been writing erotica for over 12 years and I have a catalogue of stories covering the numerous aspects of sex and sexuality.

Writing is my passion; to create a story out of nothing and totally draw the person in, to the point that they physically react, is what I love to do. That's why I wrote the Little Black Book.

What Inspires You?: - Everything and anything. Hearing a woman walking in high heels could inspire a story about a dominatrix or a woman who fiddles with her hair could inspire a story about a woman having a threesome with two men and being nervous about it.

I find inspiration in everything around me and that makes the world a much more interesting place. I've learned how to read people and hear the voice inside their heads and this has made me a better writer. Plus it's also interesting from a psychological aspect as well.

Music is a huge inspiration to me. I'm old school so I like to set up some old school Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Teddy P, etc. and just let my imagination wander. Some of my most erotic stories have been written to Prince and Al Green.

What 2 tips would you share with a budding writer?:
Tip 1: Never think that your work is not good enough. No one sets the bar for writing so there is no benchmark for your own success.

Tip 2: If you REALLY want to write, take your time with it and let the story write itself in your head. Today's main character could be tomorrow's background character so don't let frustration with a story line or a character's personality bug you into giving up on your story. If you get to a point where you feel stuck, just take a step back and look at what you're trying to achieve with your story.

An Outline of your Featured Book?: - The Little Black Book is a collection of erotic black short stories based in London's black community. Based on 18 people, the 7 stories of the Little Black Book explore sex from the view of both men and women and venture into realms of sex that, as a black community, we know about it but don't talk about it.

The 7 stories are called:
1. Marcus and the Birthday
2. Dinner At 10pm
3. Aural Sex
4. Holiday Inn-Side
5. Mrs Untitled
6. Dirty Little Secret
7. I Hate You (so jarring…)

The stories explore such topics as threesomes, foursomes, phone sex, questionable acts, angry sex and many more. Open your eyes, mind and thighs.

'Bert Williams is the funniest man I ever saw, and the saddest man I ever knew.' W. C. Fields Born in the Bahamas in 1874 and brought up there and in Los Angeles Bert Williams was disappointed early in life when his attempt to enter Stanford University was thwarted by his family's poverty. His early forays into the West Coast entertainment business saw him fare no better. After a time playing African 'savages' in white companies with his friend and theatrical partner-to-be George Walker, they made the agonising decision to 'play the coon'. Off-stage, Williams was a tall, light-skinned man with marked poise and dignity but on-stage he now became a shuffling, inept 'nigger' who pulled a wig of kinky hair over his head, wore blackface make-up, and concealed his hands in gloves.

They were an immediate hit with Walker playing the dapper, straight man, and Williams the bumbling fool. As the new century dawned they were headlining on Broadway and amongst the highest-paid entertainers in the country. But the mask was beginning to overwhelm Williams who felt increasingly degraded by his situation and began to sink into bouts of melancholia and heavy drinking. After his more flamboyant partner died in 1911 the continued personal humiliations that accompanied his professional success became difficult to bear.

In 1921, after a lifetime of being denied top-billing because of his colour, his name was in lights as he headlined in the musical comedy 'Under The Bamboo Tree'. He was leading an entirely white company but he was still trapped in blackface. Dancing in the Dark is an outstanding novel as much about the tragedy of race and identity, and the perils of reinvention, as it is about the life of one remarkable man.

I found out who Alex Wheatle was after reading his Brixton Rock. I brought and read this book when I was in my teens, and I was moved by his works. It's a hard hitting, in your face storyline but yet very funny and a really exciting read. I got lost in his words and could really see the story he was telling. His detail in the characters and surroundings allows you to really become involved in the story he is telling. A great book to have for your bookshelf.
